Ohhh, the trip to see Thomas was amazing! We had been telling Matthew for such a long time that he got to go ride Thomas so he was so excited and KNEW that Thomas was on the Island of Sodor, so we went along with that and told him (since we had a long drive ahead of us) that we were driving to the island of Sodor.
Oh man it worked out so perfectly too. On the beggining of all the movies that he watches there are windmills when you enter the Island. as we are almost to biggs, there are nothing but windmills as far as the eye can see.....So Matthew sitts up straight with WIDE eyes to see what he can see. As we near the free way there is a brigde and lots of water......He screams Island of sodor......... So we go along with it.
You can see railroad tracks everywhere. My little boy was so excited he couldnt stand it. He would scream everytime he would see a train and his eyes were so big and he would just smile and ohhh and awww....
When we got into downtown Hood River (which is small and very congested) He sees More trains, But NOT Thomas, but he still knew that we were there. We pull into a parking lot close by and he is waiting to get out, there were no legal parking spots there and we did not want to be towed, so as we drive out of the parking lot we ask where we can park and Matthew sees thomas stuff, so we go to drive where the guy told us to park, and Matthew BURSTS into TEARS......"NO NO NO GO BACK GO BACK............Thomas" Oh man it ripped my heart out, How do you explain to him that we just have to park and we will be back?
We get to the parking lot and he sees busses, he knows that there are busses on his movies so he is ok. We load on the buss and Matthew transforms into this very shy very quiet little boy. He is taking it all in, and not sure what to make of it all.
We get back up to the train depot, and he just takes it all in super quiet, just looking around. There are tons of events to do before boarding the train, (they want you there an hour before) so we go thru all the stuff there, One of the booths is you get to meet Sir Toppam Hat, (owner of the railway in the movies) Matthew would have NOTHING to do with it. NO NO NO mommy NO....
So its time to board the train after we go thru all the activities and buy all the stuff for him in the gift shop, he is so quiet on the train, he just looks around and takes it all in. He was an amazing boy the whole time, I could not tell if he wanted to laugh or cry but his eyes would get huge when the music played, and as he watched thomas take us for a ride!!!
What an amazing time it was. Never in a million years did I ever think that I would be so excited to do something like this.
He wore himself out at all the events that when the train ride was over he took his picture with Thomas and we rode the buss back to the truck and he fell alseep on the whole drive to Portland.
